### Fields

Harmonized fields allow you to define fields for conceptually the same data, originating from different sources, each with their own definition of that data. The fields you define can be used in defining dataset rules, marketing touchpoints, and conversions. There are default global harmonized fields to aid in data ingestion that include the most common fields in data sets. This includes things, like brand, channel, clicks, and impressions. ### Harmonized Fields Exercise

- Navigate to **Harmonized datasets** then select **Fields** in the Mix Modeler UI.

- Click on **Add field **button in the top right corner.
  - You will be presented with the following options: 
    - Field name – The name of the field within the dataset you are creating for.
    - Display Name – A friendly name for ease of use. 
    - Category – Dimension, Metric, or derived. Dimensions are used with strings or date/time data. Metrics are used for numbers or currency, and derived fields allow you to build an arithmetic expression via a formula. You can combine one or more metrics from Insert Metric with one or more operates. 
    - Data Type – The type will be String or DateTime when the category used is a dimension, and Number or Currency when the category used is a metric or derived.
- Set the following information in fields properties in the pop up then click **Submit**:

Field name = platform + {Initials}

Display name = Platform + {Initials}

Category = Dimension

Data Type = String

Field name = totalRevenue + {Initials}

Display name = Total Revenue + {Initials}

Category = Metric

Data Type = Currency
