This lab will walk through the steps to create a Basic Email Message in Adobe Journey Optimizer.

NOTE:  Some exercise steps and content may differ from actual lab exercises due to presenter preference, use cases or client requests.  

## Create a New Email Message

1. Within the Basic Journey, click on Email action node:

2. Enter a Label and Description for the message.
3. Choose **Marketing **for Category and **MultiChannelMarketing **for Email Surfaces.

4. Click on Edit Content.  This will open the Message Designer window:

## Define a Subject Line

1. Enter a Subject Line.

2. Click on the Personalization icon to add personalized data available for customer record.  We added "First Name" to the message.

3. To add personalization, place your cursor where you want the personation added. Search for first name by searching for "first" and clicking the plus sign. Click Save.

## Design Email

1. Click Edit Email Body to open the Email Designer Window:

2. Select “Design from Scratch”

3. Click on the 1:1 Column. Drag it 11 times onto the Canvas. Click Save.

5. Select Content Components
6. Add an Image Component in the first Component 
7. Add a Divider in the Second Component 
8. Add Text in the Third Component 
9. Add a Divider in the Fourth Component
10. Add an Image in the Fifth Component
11. Add a Divider in the Sixth Component
12. Add a Button in the Seventh Component
13. Add a Divider in the Eigth Component
14. Add a Social to the Ninth Component
15. Add a Divider in the Tenth Component
16. Add Text in the Eleventh Component.  Your layout should look like this now:

18. Select Browse to select an image. Choose the SecurFinancial logo available in the FSI folder in Asset Essentials
19. Click on each component and add content is you would like.  Once completed, your email should look similar to the following:

21. Click Save to save the message and then exit out of the Designer.
