Adobe Experience Platform App Builder is a framework within Experience Cloud Shell that enables developers to create custom applications tailored to their organization’s needs. It provides the flexibility to extend Adobe Experience Platform with bespoke functionality, integrate external services, and deliver user interfaces that align with enterprise workflows. By design, App Builder offers a powerful foundation: developers can build applications that leverage Adobe’s ecosystem while maintaining control over their own logic, data, and integrations.

For teams working in large organizations or advanced usage environments, App Builder represents an opportunity to unify processes, streamline engagement, and deliver consistent experiences across multiple applications. Its open-ended architecture encourages innovation and customization, making it a valuable tool for enterprises seeking to maximize the potential of Adobe Experience Platform.

# Template purpose

While App Builder is powerful, its default state presents significant challenges. Out of the box, it begins as an empty canvas with minimal guidance, limited documentation, and only basic permission management. The default access model only grants access to all App Builder Projects. This is insufficient for organizations running multiple applications or for advanced usage orgs that also serve hands-on engagements.

This template was created to bridge those gaps. Its purpose is to:

- **Provide a structured starting point**
Eliminate the inefficiencies of beginning from an empty canvas by offering a ready-to-use framework aligned with Adobe Experience Platform standards.
- **Enable granular permission management**
Move beyond the default “all-or-nothing” access model, allowing organizations to define and enforce permissions at a more granular level.
- **Support advanced organizational use cases**
Facilitate scenarios where multiple applications coexist within a single environment, including advanced usage orgs used for hands-on engagements.
- **Ensure design consistency**
Deliver a user interface that fully adopts Adobe Spectrum UI, maintaining a cohesive experience across custom and native AEP applications.
- **Promote extensibility**
Provide a flexible architecture that integrates with external databases and can be extended with custom features.

In essence, the template transforms App Builder from a barebones framework into a practical foundation for enterprise-scale application development.
